Samuel Wilson (He/Him)

PhD MFT | Online Campus

Hometown: Birmingham, Michigan, currently living in Los Angeles, CA

Hi! My name is Samuel. I am a second-generation immigrant with a multiracial background who spent the first 18 years of my life in Michigan, where I grew into the person I am today. After spending my high school years wondering what was next, I decided to move away to college. This eventually led me on my path to self-discovery and a better understanding of psychology as a whole. I double-majored in psychology and child development at CSUF before moving on to my MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. After extensive training, I began to realize that I wanted to become more well-versed in my therapeutic approach and looked into further exposure in the field. This is what has brought me to where I am currently, pursuing my PhD in Marital and Family Therapy at Alliant University, where I hope to continue to shape the lives of future clinicians and support individuals in need.

Fun Fact: I do Ironman triathlons as my form of self-care.

Research Interests: Marginalized populations, specifically multiracial and immigrant individuals. Focusing on how they form their identities while dealing with adjusting to societal constructs and norms.

Favorite part of the program: The connections and friendships I have made along the way.

Practicum/Internship site: Southern California Counseling Center

Advice to first year students: Embrace your feelings of being an imposter. Almost every new therapist feels like an imposter at first. Growth comes through discomfort, so use colleagues and supervisors to explore those feelings instead of hiding them.
