Liberty Frederick (She/Her)

MA MFT | Sacramento Campus

Hometown: Originally Cascade, Colorado, but now I call Nevada City, California home.

Hello! I am a devoted mother of three and grandmother of one, and I have been happily married for 30 years. I’ve dedicated my life to supporting others. My volunteer work spans various impactful roles, including serving with the Boy Scouts of America, peer mentoring and tutoring, the Crisis Text Line (988), and as a crisis peer counselor with Women of Worth in Grass Valley, California.

My educational journey began at Sierra College and Sac State and has now brought me to the Couple and Family Therapy program at Alliant International University. Throughout my life, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse populations, which has honed my skills in empathy, adaptability, and elephant jokes (IYKYK).

Fun Fact: I'm a nerdy Dungeons and Dragons (and other TTRPG) fan.

Research Interests: Loneliness in the digital age of connectivity and therapeutic uses for video and tabletop role-playing games

Advice to first year students: My advice for first-year students comes from two of the greats: Ms. Frizzle, who reminds us to "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!" and Brené Brown, who says that "What we know matters, but who we are matters more." First-year students need to get comfortable with being a little messy while we get our footing and understand our personal biases, passions, weaknesses and strengths.
