Haley Martinez (She/Her)

Clinical PsyD | San Diego Campus

Hometown: San Diego, CA

Hi my name is Haley Martinez! I am currently a G1 student studying for my Doctorate of Psychology at Alliant International University – San Diego Campus. In the winter of 2022, I graduated after two and a half years at Point Loma Nazarene University. During my time at PLNU, I was a group counselor and a student researcher. Currently, I am doing my practicum at Father Joe’s Villages working with children and adults. I conduct developmental assessments and utilize play therapy techniques with my child clients (aged 1-5).

For my adults, I engage in talk therapy primarily utilizing a psychodynamic approach with DBT interventions. I truly love meeting new people and hearing everyone’s unique lived experience. Learning more about psychology has further cemented my love for the field.

Fun Fact: I used to sing professionally for 8(ish) years!

Research Interests: Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, complex trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACES), mindfulness, spirituality, integrative psychology

Favorite part of the program: My favorite part of the program is the faculty. Every professor is so supportive and genuinely cares. I have learned so much from every single professor I have interacted with and I am so excited to learn more.

Practicum/Internship site: Father Joe's Village

Advice to first year students: Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need, people care about you and want to help! Also, with that, make sure to self care and find what works for you! I have also found it incredibly helpful to keep a schedule to space out my assignments accordingly.
