Hello! My name is Beatriz Azevedo-Reis, and I am a first-year student in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Alliant’s Sacramento campus. I am originally from a Portuguese island in the Azores called São Jorge. As an immigrant and queer student, I’m passionate about creating equitable spaces where individuals feel understood and supported across all intersecting identities. My goal is to give back to underserved communities while maintaining a balanced, fulfilling life. I find joy in connecting with nature, expressing myself through art and movement. As a student ambassador, my goal is to share my experiences, empower prospective students, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment. I look forward to connecting with you!
Fun Fact: I taught myself how to Samba no pé!
Research Interests: Ecopsychology, Intersectionality in Mental Health, and Holistic, Cultural Healing Traditions
Favorite part of the program: The opportunity to engage in thought-provoking in-class discussions, where I am constantly challenged to expand my thinking and grow both personally and professionally. I also deeply appreciate the Alliant's genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, which enhances the learning environment and fosters the inclusion of diverse voices.
Advice to first year students: My advice to a first-year student is to embrace every opportunity to learn and grow, both inside and outside of the classroom. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Get involved in your communities, participate in campus activities, ask questions, and seek out mentors. Building connections and engaging with diverse groups of people will enrich your academic experience and help you develop skills that will serve you throughout your life. You’ve got this!
