Hometown: Berkeley, California. Originally from Bangalore, India.

Aamina Shabeer is a second-year clinical psychology doctoral student at the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University. She graduated from Christ University in Bangalore, India with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, English Literature, and Journalism and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. She also received a diploma in Psycho-Social Well-Being Using Multi-Arts and Play. She has a fervent passion for working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and navigating interpersonal relationship difficulties.

The positions that Aamina held as a student clinician in various internships in India afforded her the opportunity to hone her therapeutic skills and be creative in developing interventions for her clients. Aamina strongly believes in advocacy and mental health access for underserved communities and hopes to foster a sense of hope in overcoming their obstacles. As such, she looks forward to helping clients realize that they are the architects of their own lives, promote change and improve their quality of life.

Fun Fact: In my free time, I enjoy reading classics, watching Korean dramas, cooking Indian curries, and playing video games with my family.

Research Interests: I'm currently researching the relationships between imposter phenomenon, implicit gender bias, gender-role orientation.

Favorite part of the program: I enjoy the flexibility, hands-on experience working with different populations and the supervision.

Advice to first year students: Comparison is a thief of joy! We're all at different points in life but what matters is our consistency and dedication.
